Mathematics
The Mathematics library now has a wide range of both traditional and modern texts. The following textbooks are certainly worth reading: Numbers and Proofs – RBJT Allenby; Symmetry in chaos – M Field & M Golubitsky; Introductions to Number Theory and Inequalities – CJ Bradley; Proof in Mathematics – PR Baxandall et al
The following websites are well worth a visit:
Shodor (then choose project interactivate and look at fraction four and clock arithmetic)
http://www.cut-the-knot.org/ this site is for teachers, parents and students who seek engaging mathematics. Many of the topics are accompanied by Java illustrations. There are more than 1000 Java applets. The applets can be licensed by teachers for inclusion in their own pages.
Mathematics pages: http://intranet.hhc.ac.uk/subject/CM/maths/index.html this site has solutions to many OCR A level modules (including mechanics modules) and well constructed powerpoint presentations on topics such as “completing the square”
http://amath.colorado.edu/java/ this site has some nice ideas, in the form of a java applet – e.g. volumes of revolution, tangents to a curve, taylor expansion and a few others.
