History
The History department is the only department in the school to offer a choice of two courses for AS and A2: an Early Modern Course and a Late Modern Course.
This means that students have the opportunity to develop an existing interest in a topic or choose a historical period about which they are curious but may not have sampled before.
Course content and assessment
We follow the OCR A H506 specification.
The Early Modern Course is based on 16th century English and European history:
- Essay paper on Henry VIII to Mary I (1 hour 30 minutes – 50% of AS)
- Source-based paper on the Reformation 1517-1555 (1 hour 30 minutes – 50% of AS)
The AS modules are taken in the Summer Term of the Lower Sixth.
The Late Modern Course is based on 19th/ 20th century British and World History.
- Essay paper on Mussolini and Italy 1896-1945 (1 hour 30 minutes – 50% of AS)
- Source-based paper on Churchill 1920-1945 (1 hour 30 minutes – 50% of AS)
The AS modules are taken in the Summer Term of the Lower Sixth.
