For many students Greek will complement the study of Latin as they prepare to embark upon a Classics degree at university. However, students often find Greek an excellent complement to other A level subjects.  Some students choose to study Greek to broaden their studies and explore the historical and literary nature of the set texts alongside the study of a highly logical and structured language.

The department is resourced to a very high level with an extensive collection of texts, commentaries and secondary works, allowing students to explore all avenues of Greek literature. The six members of the department bring with them a high level of experience in the study of Greek, demonstrating a passionate enthusiasm, whether it be for Greek tragedy or the precision of Greek grammar and syntax. Sixth Form classes will be taught by at least two teachers, allowing for the specialisms of those teachers to enable effective provision for student learning.

A level Greek is studied by relatively few nationally and it is held in the highest regard as a measure of academic calibre amongst universities and employers. Students who have studied Greek to a high level are regarded as being academically ambitious and able to rise to a challenge. An array of skills are developed and refined in a challenging and satisfying environment, where small classes offer a taste of study beyond the school environment.  In recent years AS and A2 language has been taught in a combined class with appropriately differentiated work, enabling pupils to feel part of a larger community and to get to know others who share the same interests as them.
