The four A2 topics are:
- Environment – Pollution, Energy, Protecting the Planet
- The Multicultural Society – Immigration, Integration, Racism
- Contemporary Social Issues – Wealth and Poverty, Law and Order, Impact of Scientific and Technological Progress
- Cultural Topic – Of the five options available, we study the following two:

- The work of an author from a target language-speaking country or community – ‘Ich fühl mich so fifty fifty’ by Karin König
- The work of a director from a target language-speaking country or community – ‘Das Leben der Anderen’ by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
Assessment
Unit 3 – Listening, Reading and Writing (2 hours 30 minutes)
35% of A level
110 marks
Unit 4 – Speaking test 35 mins (including 20 mins preparation)
15% of A level
50 marks
Oral language lessons
With the oral making up a high percentage of the assessment at both AS and A2 level, students have a weekly lesson in pairs with the German Oral Language teacher, which gives them an excellent opportunity to progress quickly and to focus in detail on the examination requirements.
