English Literature
Students will follow the OCR AS and A2 specifications in English Literature (H071 and H471) which provide a balance between coursework and examined papers and include texts from a variety of periods, genres and styles. There is the possibility of a creative writing option at AS level, allowing students considerable freedom of expression. All AS papers are completed and examined at the end of the Lower Sixth Year; A2 papers are all taken at the end of the Upper Sixth.
A2 F663 Drama and Poetry (pre – 1800) – examination of two hours
A2 F664 Texts in Time – coursework of 3000 words
The aims of the specification are to encourage candidates to develop their interest in and enjoyment of literature and literary studies as they:
- read widely and independently both set texts and others that they have selected for themselves.
- engage creatively with a substantial body of texts and ways of responding to them.
- develop and effectively apply their knowledge of literary analysis and evaluation in speech and writing.
- explore the contexts of the texts they are reading and others’ interpretations of them.
