For many students Classical Civilisation will complement the study of other arts subjects. Some students choose to study Classical Civilisation to broaden their horizons in the humanities or to provide an arts subject to a scientific combination.  Whatever the incentives for study, students gain the opportunity to explore the cultural, literary and historical nature of the set texts alongside the visual sources of monumental sculpture and architecture.

The department is resourced to a very high level with an extensive collection of texts, commentaries and secondary works, allowing students to explore all avenues of the classical world. The six members of the department bring with them a high level of experience. Sixth Form classes will be taught by at least two teachers, allowing for the specialisms of those teachers to enable effective provision for student learning.

A level Classical Civilisation is held in the same regard as any other humanities subject and universities are often impressed by students who can achieve well in a subject that encompasses a range of disciplines. Students of Classical Civilisation are often able to contextualise events from the modern world and draw interesting parallels with the period they have studied.
