Art is a popular and growing subject at A level at The Perse, with 30 students studying it in 2011. Studying Art and Design at A level will give you the opportunity to develop and broaden your practical skills and creative language. Students will learn to reflect purposefully on what they have made and understand how their work relates to the broader world of art and design through independent research, gallery visits, group discussion and written critical analysis.

Every year our students make successful applications to art related courses such as Architecture, Fashion, Foundation Art or Graphic Design. In the past 5 years Perse students have gained places at Cambridge University, London College of Fashion, Central St Martins School of Art, Camberwell School of Art, Cardiff University, Edinburgh University, Glasgow School of Art, Nottingham University, Loughborough University and Brighton University.

Post A level, students may decide either to embark on the foundation art route or apply directly to degree level, through UCAS. Studying at foundation provides students with a transitional experience, introducing them to various pathways, allowing them to make an informed decision about what to study at degree level. They may explore areas such as painting, sculpture, fashion, illustration, graphics and theatre.

After graduating from an Art and Design course at a UK university, students will have a huge range of employment opportunities. Photographer, lecturer, graphic designer, interior designer, website designer, set designer, curator, computer graphics, fashion designer, special effects and animator – the list is endless.
