Community Art

Our Sixth Form Community artists have undertaken several exciting projects recently, including refurbishing two carousel horses for Pleasurewood Hills Theme park, creating several large scale murals for a local nursery, making mini road signs and painting a playhouse for a local primary school.

Competitions

Students can view up and coming competitions on our ‘News Board’. We have entered students into various national competitions, including The Saatchi Schools Award, The Cambridge Drawing Society Exhibition and The Mall Galleries Student Exhibition. We were delighted when a Perse pupil came third in the national ARTiculate competition, where pupils compete in giving an informed speech about a piece of art that they feel passionate about.

Life drawing

We run life drawing class once a week from 4.30pm until 6pm. Here students learn to develop their observational skills.

Working outside lesson time

We have always enjoyed an ‘open door’ policy in the Art department, encouraging students to come in to continue with their study whenever possible. The art rooms are open early in the mornings, over break and lunchtimes and in the evenings until around 6pm. Students are welcome to come in to use the space available.

Trips and workshops

Over the past few years we have run a variety of trips and workshops including trips to the Saatchi Gallery, the Royal College of Art MA Show, the Jerwood Drawing Prize, Kettles Yard and the Royal Academy. Students also have the opportunity to attend innovative workshops run by professional artists. These have included printing at the Curwen Print Study Centre, wire sculpture, mixed media, soap stone carving and felting workshops.
