School life
The Sixth Form Centre
The Sixth Form Centre is a firendly and welcoming place to be. It comprises a large, recently refurbished common room with recreational facilities, two air-conditioned work rooms with extensive computer facilities, a careers and university resources library and various teaching rooms and offices. Wireless internet and network access is freely available.
The Sixth Form Council assists the Head of Sixth Form in the management of the Sixth Form Centre and provides a forum for students to make suggestions for the ongoing development of the facility.
The work rooms are always busy and are used productively. These are dedicated work spaces in which students can prepare for lessons, revise or conduct online research. Students can also gain access to the work rooms after school hours to get a head start on assignments.
The common room is the focal point for social activity. The atmosphere is good humoured and dynamic. It is an ideal space for students to relax, read or play music. For more energetic souls, the proximity of the common room to the school’s superbly equipped gym provides a great opportunity to keep fit and socialise during the school day.
The careers and university resources library contains a vast amount of literature on university applications and gap year opportunities. Here students can consult university prospectuses or relevant websites. Our university advisory staff are on hand to assist in this process.
A typical week
Sixth Formers at The Perse have busy and fulfilling lives. Each day begins with registration in tutor groups at 8.35am.
Naturally, the academic timetable is demanding but it is also flexible, allowing time for sporting, enrichment and social development. Sixth Formers do not have to stay on site during their free periods, but most choose to do so taking advantage of the study resources available within school.
We offer excellent sporting opportunities for all students. Each week involves timetabled games lessons. This could include major sports like rugby, netball, hockey, cricket or tennis. Alternatively, students can choose from a growing range of options organised for smaller groups such as fencing and dance. There are a large number of competitive fixtures for both girls and boys and the school enjoys regional and national success.
Sixth Formers also participate in our Enrichment Programme which takes place on Monday afternoons, once a fortnight. Standards of music and drama are very high. The Perse Players drama group performs at the Edinburgh Fringe, whilst musicians take part in tours and concerts in prestigious venues across East Anglia.
Most timetabled lessons end around 4.00pm. However, many Sixth Formers stay behind after school either to participate in intellectual groups and sports training, or to work and socialise in the Sixth Form Centre.
Lunch
There is a deli bar serving baguettes, wraps and paninis open to Sixth Formers at lunchtime in the pupil cafe.
