Lunch follows Lesson Five and runs from 12.25 to 1.30

Pupils and staff eat together in the school Dining Room and supervision is provided by a full time member of staff. All our food is cooked on the premises and a self-service system operates.

The Perse employs the catering company Holroyd Howe International and The Prep has its own Catering Manager and staff.

Menus are devised in consultation with the Head of Pastoral Care and the emphasis is on healthy eating with wide range of choice.

Each day three hot dishes are prepared, one of which is a vegetarian dish, and a wide range of salads, cold meats and cheese is also available. Desserts include a traditional pudding, fresh fruit and yoghurts.

Children are able to choose from everything that is available, however, the member of staff on duty keeps a discreet eye on pupil choice to ensure that a balanced meal is eaten.

The Catering Manager is able to provide dishes to meet specific dietary requirements and the school is a ‘nut free’ zone.

After lunch the children are given free time to play. Cambridge weather is very kind to us and on most days they play in the open air, using our extensive grounds. These include the large grass area at the front of the school, two playgrounds, an area with table tennis tables and an adventure playground. There are designated areas for ball games and running games, and there are also spaces reserved for quiet play. The library, which possesses a first-rate range of books and plenty of space to relax, is also available.

The children are supervised at all times by members of the full time staff.

The break after lunch is also a time when some of our music groups meet to rehearse and an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities is on offer.
