Assemblies

The whole school meets for Assembly three times a week and as The Prep is a multi-cultural society, made up of children of many religious beliefs, it is important that everyone feels included. Religious messages communicated through assembly embrace the philosophies of all the great faiths.

Put simply: we want our children to grow up in an environment where kindness, honesty, tolerance and understanding are seen as the important values that underpin a happy community.

We try hard to avoid language that promotes any particular religious belief and celebrate as many of the great festivals as we can.

We do, however, acknowledge that The Perse School is a Christian foundation and to that end The Lord’s Prayer is sometimes included in our assemblies.  We also feel that it is important that our children develop an awareness of the great musical tradition of communal singing.

Assemblies on Tuesdays and Thursdays are led by the Head, and our Friday assemblies often combine a presentation from a visiting speaker, or members of the school, with a chance to celebrate the success of our pupils. The celebration of pupils’ achievements, however great or small, is central to the growth of their confidence and each week certificates are presented to children who have achieved distinction in whatever their chosen field, whether this takes place inside or outside school. Friday assemblies are also attended by a large number of parents.
