Year 5 Egyptian Day
1 February 2010
Year 5 travelled back in time to the 14th century BC, when they celebrated the Festival of the Nile.

During the morning there were various workshops, including grinding down olives to make oil for lamps - the winning pair managed to get their lamp to burn for 15 minutes - making ink and writing on papyrus and carving shabtis from soap - lots of children had particularly clean looking hands afterwards!
In the afternoon they
attended the Royal Court of the pharaoh, with Akhenaten, and his wife, Nefertiti. There they did dancing, court business with the Vizier, a meeting with the soldiers and athletes and participated in a “banquet”!
The children will be presenting some of their favourite facts and experiences in a special Egyptian-themed assembly on Friday 5th February.
