The events in Haiti have shocked the world. News coverage has given us vivid accounts of the devastation and the enormity of the crisis.
In recent assemblies our focus has been on the crisis that has hit this fragile country. We have discussed the reasons for the earthquake, the pressures that have arisen for the people who have had to face such horror and the enormous efforts that aid workers are doing to help. The response and level of understand on the part of the pupils has been impressive and reassuring.
In assembly, the children brought in coins and notes to fill a map of Haitia, an impressive £764.38 was raised and sent to Save The Children to help towards the Haitia aid efforts.
Save the Children are working hard to ensure that children are protected and able to access safe and quality education. Around 50 temporary schools will be set up in the coming weeks, food and medicines will be distributed and they will be operating a mobile health clinic to treat over 85,000 people. Thank you to all those who have contributed.
