Religious Studies
The School requires that religious education should not indoctrinate its pupils in any particular faith. It sets out to help them develop an understanding of why and how people worship, what creates feelings such as awe, wonder, reverence and humility, and how religious faith affects people's everyday lives.
A daily act of worship is held each day. This takes the form of a whole school assembly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with class assemblies on Tuesdays. Parents are welcome to attend whole school assemblies. Assemblies follow a weekly theme, which endeavour to promote the spiritual and moral development of each pupil. They reflect the fact that the prominent religious faith of the pupils in the school is Christianity, but that there are also representatives of the other main world religions.
Each class has one Religious Education lesson each week and a programme of study is followed that aims to provide an understanding of the key concepts and beliefs of the six major world religions. Each Year studies selected areas of Christianity with an insight into one or two other faiths. The programme allows for time to consider the main religious festivals and to revisit them in later years.
