French

All pupils at the Prep study French for two lessons each week and progress from simple spoken French exercises through elementary reading and writing and more spontaneous French communication. Basic vocabulary includes numbers to 100, colours, pets, words to describe and discuss nature, houses, towns, their family, their hobbies and themselves.

Pupils begin to appreciate the spelling and grammatical differences between English and French through experience in the target language in books, video and IT. They begin to use French in writing and speaking to answer questions in class and to participate in the games and songs used in lessons.

Annual French Trip

Prep Chateau du Broutel

Year 5 enjoy a long weekend in the market town of Rue, in the Somme valley. We regularly stay at Château du Broutel (pictured).

The pupils participate in many cultural activities such as a visit to a chocolate factory and a local goat farm, a ride on a steam train and completion of various tasks in French, such as shopping in the local market and following clues on a treasure hunt.
