As pupils progress through the school we hope to develop their awareness of the role and function of Design Technology within our society and the process involved in developing a product from the initial idea to its final realisation.
Through a series of projects pupils are shown how to use a range of tools and equipment in a safe and organised manner. They will understand the importance of working in a methodical and organised way, assessing their work as it progresses.
The projects are designed to enable pupils to experience a range of processes and skills from graphics and simple layout, to cutting and assembling wood to build freestanding structures. The selection and preparation of ingredients in food technology: the use of fabric dyes and inks in Textiles and the use of components in simple electrical circuits.
When pupils reach Year 6 they will have a broad balanced range of skills which they will have related to examples of both contemporary and past designers.
