Curriculum

The curriculum is enriched by a number of subject specific trips and lectures, a range of which are described below.

The Art department arranges visits to The Fitzwilliam Museum and the Anthropology Museum for pupils in Years 5 and 6.  Artists in residence also visit the school and work with pupils on specific projects.

The Drama curriculum is enriched by our pupils experiencing live theatre in local and national venues. In addition, visiting theatre companies also bring productions to the school.

In the Summer Term pupils in Year 5 enjoy a four day trip to the Château du Broutel, near Calais, as part of the French curriculum. The weekend provides numerous opportunities for the children to speak French and experience a range of cultural activities.

The Geography department organises a morning of field work for pupils in Year 5 who work alongside pupils from The Upper. The History department arrange a number of ‘experience days’ where their year group’s period of historical study is recreated. For these events the children dress up and participate in a range of activities and workshops; immersing themselves in the experience.

Religious Education is enriched by visits to the Emmaus Road Show and local religious buildings. The Science department arranges visits to the Fowlmere RSPB Reserve for pupils in Year 3 and the Wandlebury Nature Reserve and the Duxford Aerodrome for pupils in Year 6.

The Sports department arrange regular fixtures against local schools and our girls and boys travel further afield to play weekend fixtures against King’s, Chester and Chesham Prep in Buckinghamshire. There is also an annual Ski Trip to Les Deux Alpes, France, for pupils in Year 6 and a Leavers’ Weekend when senior pupils visit the Activities Centre at West Runton.

We are also extremely fortunate to be located so close to the University of Cambridge and to have so many of our parents involved in academic life and important research projects. This means that we have an excellent resource on which to draw for lectures, experiments and projects.
