Entrance Bursary Scheme

PrepThe Perse Prep School is progressively raising funds for a bursary scheme and is very keen to encourage applications from parents who, because of their financial situation, would not normally be able to afford to send their child(ren) to the school.

All applications for bursary places are dealt with by the Bursar's office. Parents wishing to be considered for such places should please contact the Bursar's office at The Perse School, Hills Road Cambridge CB2 8QF. Telephone 01223 403800. All applicants will be required to complete a detailed means-test form and to attend an interview with the Deputy Bursar. All information provided to the school in relation to bursary applications is treated confidentially.

Bursary places for each year of entry may be awarded to a small number of children. Awards will normally be made as part of the entrance examination process. However, it should be stressed that bursaries are awarded as a result of the financial need of the applicants and are not correlated to academic performance in the entrance examination (other than the requirement for applicants to pass the academic entry requirements.) The School regrets that at present it cannot guarantee that bursaries awarded to pupils entering the Prep School will be carried through beyond 11+ and into the Upper School (although parents may re-apply at that stage).

All applications for bursary places are assessed on a means tested basis and will include an interview at the School. There is no residence qualification, however family situations - including the number of school-aged children, the financial circumstances of both parents, and of any current partner of one or both parents - will be taken into account, along with social security benefits and other financial details. These will include both capital and current income. Any awards made for each year of entry will be subject to annual means testing thereafter.

As a very rough guide, combined family incomes of more than £50,000 with one school-aged child, are unlikely to qualify for bursary help. The School will operate a sliding scale below this limit which it reserves the right to vary in special cases, but all awards are at the absolute discretion of the School. The number of awards which can be made each year is very limited. The Bursar's office can provide guidance in individual cases (Telephone 01223 403800).
