Musical celebration at the opening of the Nigel Richardson Hall
6 October 2008
Music Week at The Pelican was something out of the ordinary this year! As a celebration of the opening of our fantastic new Nigel Richardson Hall, we invited members of the Britten Sinfonia to help the whole school to COMPOSE! The theme chosen by the Sinfonia was NIGHT and each class wrote a poem which the children set their own music to, skilfully guided by John Webb, a real-live composer. He first helped each class to warm up and think of music for the song and accompaniment to their poem. Then, with the help of his assistants Andy (on the horn) and Jo (on the bassoon), John wove all the music together. Each class performed their part of the composition and all joined in a little bridging pattern "Sh, lullaby" to introduce the next class. Finally everyone joined in the amazing SUNRISE, which grew and grew and grew, then died away to nothing. What an exciting afternoon for both children and all the adults who came to hear the first (and probably last!) performance.
