Shrove Tuesday traditions were remembered yesterday when pupils at the Nursery and Pre-Prep took part in a pancake race. It was a close run race with the Kingfishers finishing just ahead of the Woodpeckers. Well done to everyone!

Fabulous performances from Year 1

Both Year 1 assemblies have been wonderful this week. Oak Class told the school all about the seasons through poetry, dance and presentations. Pine Class performed an alternative version of Little Red Riding Hood. The children relished their roles and we are grateful to everyone who was able to come and support them.

Fun in the snow

The children at our Nursery and Pre-Prep had a fantastic time playing in the snow. There was even enough snow in the playground to build several lovely snowmen!

Year 1 visit the Folk Museum

On a recent 'Washday' trip to the Folk Museum, Year 1 had lots of fun learning about life in Victorian times. They enjoyed grating carbolic soap, washing clothes in the dolly tub with a posser and then rubbing the clothes on the scrubbing board before finally rinsing. The mangle was called ‘the little nipper’ so they had to be really careful with their fingers. They also learned how to hang clothes with split pegs and tried ironing with flat irons. It was hard work but ‘extraordinarily superb’ (as one child wrote back at school)!

The animal hospital

Last week, staff from Napp Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge visited our Nursery and Reception classes. They brought an Animal Hospital into school and taught the children how to bandage a teddy's leg. The children also used real stethoscopes to listen to their own heartbeat. When shown a model of the human body, many of the class were able to name internal organs accurately and some even knew about veins and arteries. Our visitors were very impressed with the children’s knowledge. It was an interesting and enjoyable morning for all.

Stirring the Christmas Pudding

Children and staff at the Nursery and Pre-Prep were given the very important job of stirring the Christmas Pudding. A huge bowl of mixture was placed in the middle of the school hall and the children sat around it in a circle singing Christmas carols and songs. Every child had a turn at stirring. The pudding mixture contained only the dry ingredients and the children had to work hard to stir it. As the aroma of dried fruit rose into the air thoughts of Christmas filled our heads. The pudding was then cooked in the kitchen and added to our lunch menu on the last day of term.

Last week children in Nursery and Reception entertained their parents with wonderful Christmas celebrations including singing and dancing. There was not a dry eye in the house!

Mad Science with Supersonic Sam

On Friday Supersonic Sam showed pupils at the Nursery and Pre-Prep exactly how cool and fun science can be. They were treated to an interactive assembly on air-pressure that fully engaged and amazed every child and adult in the room. Supersonic Sam’s spectacular demonstrations included flying a ping-pong ball, large beach ball and even a toilet roll high into the school hall’s ceiling!
