Year 7 induction

New Year 7 pupils are invited to attend two induction days before they start at The Upper – one in June and one in September.

In order to allow for a smooth transition we hold a Move-Up Day towards the end of the Summer Term. This day provides pupils with the opportunity to meet their form tutors and classmates, to familiarise themselves with the layout and set-up of the school and to get to know staff who are to play a large role in their future here. Parents are invited to join their child(ren) towards the end of the day to learn more about the school, meet their son or daughter’s form tutors and to find out about travel options to and from the school. Families are also given the opportunity to view samples of the school uniform.

Year 7 pupils are then invited to attend our Familiarisation Morning in September, the aim of which is to help familiarise themselves with some of the routines of school life at The Upper and to work with their tutors on one or two of the practicalities of a new term.

We also like new Year 7 pupils to take part in a Linking Project to help bridge the gap between their primary and secondary education.
